Some irate youth at Nyinahini in the Atwima Mponua Constituency of the Ashanti Region have attacked the New Patriotic Party (NPP) office and destroyed properties running into thousands of cedis.

Speaking on Akoma FM‘s current affairs and political talk show GhanAkoma on Monday, April 26, one of the irate youth explained that “our action was in response to a schemed attempt by the MP for the area, the former sports minister Isaac Asiamah to get the constituency chairman, Kofi Marfo, nominated as District Chief Executive.”

Kwarteng, as he preferred to be called, was speaking to host of the show Aduanaba Kofi Asante Ennin.

The last attempt to push for the removal of the current DCE, William Darko, was fiercely rejected by the youth during a meeting held by the lawmaker.

The attack at the party office last Friday emanated from an inconclusive meeting with party executives. The meeting is said to have ended in a near brawl, forcing police officers to come to the scene.

The angry youth had, nonetheless, already destroyed furniture and some valuables as they swore to fiercely resist any attempt to impose a new DCE on them.

Footage widely shared on social media revealed badly damaged glass windows as the youth threatened resistance.

“We were stunned after the MP suddenly declared his support for the Constituency Chairman to be nominated as the DCE…He is a party leader and this case, a father for all and he ought not to disclose his support for the Chairman.”

“We will strongly resist any attempts to impose the chairman on us. Asiamah’s actions will not augur well for the party and that’s what we are fighting against,” another said.

The party’s regional executives have since condemned the actions of the youth and are calling on the police to get all perpetrators arrested.

“This indiscipline is cropping up and it is time we called these people to order,” said Kwabena Nsenkyire, a First Vice Regional Chairman of the NPP.
