Three persons including the driver and his mate were reportedly killed after a diesel tanker exploded at Onyinanufo near Wioso in the Ahafo Ano South West District of the Ashanti Region.
The disaster occurred on Monday, May 24 when the speeding tanker collided with a passenger vehicle in the relatively small town.
Eye witnesses say the diesel carrier caught fire instantly and overturned.
The fire swept through the community of about 400 to 500 inhabitants, destroying most of the houses they live in.
As a result, many of them have been rendered homeless.
TV3’s Benjamin Audio reported on News 360 that the residents’ major worry is where they will sleep in the evening.
He reports that officials of the district assembly are in a crunch meeting to get the stranded residents a place to sleep tonight.
They are considering the palace or the near-by primary school, our reporter said.
Personnel from the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) as well as the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO) were deployed to the scene to control the fire.
A two-year old boy is said to have been burnt to death while a number of children in the community are reported missing.
