A new central market at Achiase in the Achiase District of the Eastern Region has been commissioned with a call on traders and business owners to patronize the market to boost the economic viability of the area for growth.
With the proper layouts, the project which was made possible by the District Assembly Common Fund will offer sufficient space for traders, adequate security, and enough lighting to enable the 24-hour operation of the facility.
Honorable Richmond Amponsah, the District Chief Executive for Achiase District, Honorable Kofi Ahenkorah Marfo, the MP for Achiase, and Honorable Bright Wireku Brobbey, the Deputy Minister of Employment and Labour Relations, all graced the big occasion, which was chaired by Daasebre Gyenin Kantan II, the chief of Achiase.
ADDRESSED BY DCE
Hon. Richmond Amponsah, the District Chief Executive for Achiase District, commissioning the facility in a brief ceremony on Tuesday, 31st November, 2023 said the NPP government would continue to provide the needed commercial and conducive environment to propel its development agenda in the area.
He commended the government and other entities for making their dreams come true.
The opening of the new market, he noted, would help boost the local economy in and around the area, and he urged traders in the constituency to patronize the market.
Hon. Richmond Amponsah, in an interaction with the Daily Searchlight and MyGhanaMedia.com, asked the traders to make the market vibrant to attract others and boost the Assembly’s revenue mobilization drive.
According to him, the Assembly’s internally generated fund (IGF) was not encouraging, and everything possible should be done to expand it.
He asked the district’s residents to have faith in the NPP administration, saying that it is making every effort to pull Ghana out of its economic predicament.
In order to support the NPP’s vision of national development agenda, Mr. Richmond urged voters in his district and around the nation to cast enormous ballots for the party in the upcoming general elections in 2024.
MP’s ASSERTION
Meanwhile, the Member of Parliament for Achiase, Hon. Kofi Ahenkorah Marfo, reiterated the government’s commitment to bringing local governance and growth to the local levels of every district.
He cautioned market women not to connive with the revenue collectors to cheat the Assembly.
He gave the constituents his word that additional projects are in the pipeline.
The legislator committed to working with his DCE, Hon. Richmond Amponsah, to finish the uncompleted road development in the district capital.
He begged NPP delegates to choose him again as their parliamentary candidate, citing his remarkable ability to push for both the party’s growth and additional development initiatives for the constituency.
Furthermore, he asked his supporters to keep praying for him and his DCE.
NANANOM NOTES
The Chief of Akyem Achiase, Daasebre Gyenin Kantan II, and the chairman of the event said the market would be opened for the entire district to use and not for Achiase alone.
The chief believes this market will help decongest the choked Achiase market.
He called for peace among the chiefs and individuals from the area.
COUNSEL
Daasebre Gyenin Kantan II also advised all the Achiase people, including political party supporters, to refrain from using tribal politics to unseat the sitting MP.
Daasebre Gyenin Kantan II asserts that everybody, regardless of political affiliation or nationality, is eligible to run for office whenever a position becomes vacant.
He lamented certain NPP members’ behavior in the Achiase area, which he said could undermine the harmony and calm of the entire area.
He implored the DCE and the MP to see to it that those misconceptions in the constituency are resolved.
He conveyed his appreciation to the district chief executive for Achiase District, Hon. Richmond Amponsah, and members of parliament, Hon. Kofi Ahenkorah Marfo, for their significant contributions to the district’s development.
THANKFULNESS
The Market Women Association thanked the government for the project and further called for its full completion.
According to them, the new market had brought joy to the people, especially market women who travel to other places to sell their goods.
