Adomako Mensah Commends Jinapor For Consultative Dialogue On galamsy

The Member of Parliament (MP) for Afigya Kwabre North in the Ashanti Region, Mr. Collins Adomako Mensah has commended the Lands and Natural Resources Minister, Samuel Abu Jinapor for organising a National Consultative Dialogue to address the issue of illegal small-scale mining in the country, popularly called “galamsey”.

According to the Afigya Kwabre North legislator, the move is a step in the right direction and must be commended by all.

He believes it will present the government with diverse ideas in dealing with the menace for the betterment of the country.

Mr. Adomako Mensah speaking on Citi TV‘s Breakfast Daily programme on Thursday, April 15, 2021, urged all to put away personal sentiments and focus on the collective good of the country.

“I must say that I am happy about what we are seeing now [consultative dialogue], with all political actors, chiefs, and everybody coming to the realisation that this issue [galamsey] has to be dealt with properly and that all of us must come together and solicit views, opinions, and proposals to ensure that we bring an end to this menace.”

“The approach by this current Lands Minister [Samuel Jinapor] is very commendable and must be commended for bringing all stakeholders on board to look at the issues in the best interests of the nation and must be supported by all.”

About the National Consultative Dialogue

The two-day National Consultative Dialogue on small-scale mining which began yesterday, Wednesday, April 14, 2021, will end today, Thursday, April 15, 2021, at the Accra International Conference Centre.

The Dialogue is to solicit views, proposals, and suggestions from diverse stakeholders in the small-scale mining industry, to develop appropriate policy interventions for the sector.

A statement signed and issued by Mr. Benito Owusu-Bio, Chairman of the Ministerial Planning Committee, National Consultative Dialogue on Small-Scale Mining, on Tuesday, said the overarching goal of the Dialogue was to improve the regulation, management and governance of the sector.

The Dialogue is being organised by the Forestry Commission under the auspices of the Ministry of Lands and Natural Resources.
