The Member of Parliament for Upper West Akyem Constituency, Hon. Emmanuel Drah, has emphasized the importance of opportunity-based entrepreneurship for Ghanaian students and young people.
He believes that Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) and Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) are key drivers of success in entrepreneurship.
The MP noted that numerous entrepreneurial opportunities exist in the country, enabling young people to build capacity, address gaps, and establish sustainable enterprises.
He encouraged youth to develop innovative business models that create jobs and help close the unemployment gap.
The legislator made these remarks while he gifted 50 young people in his constituency with startup equipment and an undisclosed amount of money after they completed their apprenticeship training at Adeiso in the Eastern Region.
This initiative aims to equip young people with the necessary skills and resources to start their own businesses.

Alleviate Unemployment In Rural Areas
The MP expressed concern about the high unemployment rate among rural youth, which often leads to migration to urban areas in search of better opportunities.
Through apprenticeships, he said, youth can acquire skills and improve their living standards, and curb the urban migration.
Drah urged parents, traditional authorities, and stakeholders to support youth in pursuing opportunity-based entrepreneurship.
He believes that this approach can empower young people to become self-employed and contribute to the country’s economic growth.
By promoting entrepreneurship among youth, the MP hopes to address the unemployment gap and foster economic development in the constituency. His initiative serves as a model for other communities to follow.
The MP’s initiative highlights the importance of collaboration between the government, private sector, and civil society in promoting entrepreneurship among youth. By working together, stakeholders can provide young people with the necessary skills, resources, and support to succeed in entrepreneurship.
Shun Substance Abuse
On his part, the District Chief Executive hopeful for Upper West Akim District, Mr. William Agbalenyo, who accompanied the MP, also encouraged young people to tap into entrepreneurial opportunities and steer clear of illicit drugs that can ruin their lives.

Agbalenyo warned that substance abuse can have devastating consequences, including loss of productivity, health problems, and even death.
He urged youth to focus on building their skills and starting their own businesses, rather than resorting to destructive behaviors.
End.
