President Mahama Appoints MMDCEs For Eastern Region; Solomon Kusi Brako Heads To Birim Central Municipal

President John Dramani Mahama has nominated 33 persons as chief executives of Metropolitan, Municipal, and District Assemblies(MMDAs) in the Eastern Region.

Key among the nominees is the National Democratic Congress (NDC) 2024 parliamentary candidate for Asene-Manso Akroso, Eric Ahinkwa, who was initially reported to have been disqualified during the vetting process.

Also, Solomon Kusi Brako has been nominated for the position of Metropolitan Chief Executive (MCE) for Birim Central Municipal. His nomination is part of the government’s broader strategy to ensure strong local governance at the municipal level.

Hakeem Antwi Abdul, Taaju Rahim, Samuel Owusu Brako, and Umar Ahmed have been nominated as the chief executives for Birim North, Birim South, and Denkyembour, respectively, in the Akyemansa block.

The appointment is the full complement of the positions of MMDCEs in the Eastern Region, which has 33 Metropolitan, Municipal, and District Assemblies (MMDAs).

The appointments were announced via a statement by the Minister of Local Government, Chieftaincy and Religious Affairs, Ahmed Ibrahim.

The nominees will have to be approved by at least two-thirds of the members of their respective assemblies.

With the President nominating chief executives for the 33 MMDAs in the Eastern Region, it is left with the appointments of MMDCEs for the Ashanti Region, which has 42 more to go after the nomination and confirmation of Richard Ofori-Agyeman Buadi as MCE for the Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly.
