Road Transport Operators have released new fares that commuters are to pay following an announcement of a 15% reduction in public transport fares, effective Saturday, May 24, 2025.

The revised fares will be applicable to shared taxis, intra-city (trotro), intercity (long-distance buses), and haulage vehicles.

The operators urged commercial transport providers to adhere to the new fares and display them prominently at their loading terminals.

In a press release issued on Tuesday, May 20, the Road Transport Operators announced their decision.

The statement, jointly signed by Emmanuel Ohene Yeboah, General Secretary of the Ghana Road Transport Coordinating Council, and Godfred Adulbire, General Secretary of the Ghana Private Road Transport Union (GPRTU), emphasized that the fare adjustment aligns with the “Administrative Arrangement on Public Transport Fares,” taking into account the observed reductions in petroleum prices during this period.

 

The list of new prices shared by the group showed that long-distance travels, which cost GH¢75, will now cost GH¢64; those that cost GH¢60 will now cost GH¢51, and those that cost GH¢17. Short-distance travels that cost GH¢5 will now cost GH¢4, and those that cost GH¢10 will now cost GH¢8.5.

 

“We kindly request commercial transport operators to comply with the new fares and post the same at their loading terminals. We further request all operators, commuters, and the general public to cooperate fully to ensure the successful implementation of the revised fares,” the statement further advised.
