Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia has been elected the flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the party’s presidential primary held on Saturday, January 31st, 2026.
The former Vice President secured a decisive victory, positioning him to lead the party into the next general elections.
Kennedy Agyapong came in second place, while Dr. Bryan Acheampong secured third position in the voting. They were followed by Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum in fourth place and Kwabena Agyei Agyepong in fifth.
The primary saw participation from over 196,462 delegates across the country, who cast their votes at 333 polling centres spanning all 275 constituencies.
He polled 110,643 votes representing in the Presidential primary held across the country on Saturday, November 4, 2023, which had about 196,462 delegates casting their ballot.
His closest contender, Member of Parliament for Assin Central, Ken Agyapong polled 46,554 votes.
Voting was conducted under tight security and closely monitored by party officials to ensure a transparent and credible process.
Early indications from the collation of results suggested a strong showing for Dr. Bawumia, reflecting broad support among party delegates.
Party leaders and observers hailed the exercise as largely peaceful, with minimal incidents reported during voting and counting.
Following his victory, Dr. Bawumia thanked delegates for their support and pledged to run a unifying and inclusive campaign leading up to the 2028 general elections.
He called on all NPP members, including those who supported other aspirants, to rally behind the party to secure a national victory.
