Mr David Akologo, the Bolgatanga East District Chief Executive (DCE), says the ongoing construction work on the ‘Agenda 111’ project in the District will be completed and handed over in February 2024.
The initiative by government was intended to construct 111 hospitals across Districts in the country without hospitals to promote Universal Health Coverage.
The DCE, who visited the construction site at Katanga, a community in the District to assess the progress of work, said work was in progress, and urged the Contractor, C&H Logistics Limited, to ensure that they project was completed and handed over per schedule.
It was observed that staff accommodation and other departments of the facility were roofed.
Mr Akologo reiterated the importance of the hospital to residents in the District, noting that the facility when completed, would be a major referral centre for adjoining communities in the District.
He charged residents to take interest in the project and keenly monitor the contractor to ensure continuity of work.
On the percentage of work done, Mr Yussif Muniru, the Site Manager, indicated that the project was 90 percent complete.
He said some few works including a drainage system would soon be done to complete the project.
Some residents in the community who spoke to journalists at the site, were happy about the pace of work, saying the facility, when completed, would ease the burden associated with traveling to other Districts for medical care.
According to them, President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo’s visit to the site when the project was at the foundation level in 2022, put the contractor on his toes to fast-track the work.
Apart from the Bolgatanga East District, similar construction works were at various stages of completion in the Builsa South District, Kassena-Nankana West, Nabdam, Binduri, Pusiga, Tempane and Garu Districts in the Region.
