In order to develop self-sustaining jobs, 400 youth in the Akyem Achiase Constituency of the Eastern Region have been provided training in employable skills.
SKILLS TRAINING
The effort to empower women to start their own businesses and achieve financial independence was financed by members of parliament for the Achiase Constituency and the NPP Women’s Wing in partnership with the Aseda Foundation.
“Empowering Achiase Constituency Women With Skills Training” was the theme of the nine-day free Skills Training initiative
Even though the initiative was designed to empower women, some young people, both boys and girls, took advantage of the opportunity to participate in the training.
At the graduation ceremony in Achiase, the participants were awarded a certificate as evidence of their acquisition of the knowledge they had studied.
During the course of nine days, the participants learned how to manufacture liquid soaps, shampoo, shower gel, makeup, African fabric purses, bridal fans, and fabric slippers, in addition to delicacies including pies, chips, cakes, and bread.
The principal speaker at the graduation ceremony was Hon. Bright Wireko Brobbey, Deputy Minister of Employment and Labour Relations and Member of Parliament for Hemang Lower Denkyira Constituency.
Additional dignitaries in attendance at the vibrant event included Hon. Richard Amponsah, the District Chief Executive of the Achiase District Assembly; Mrs. Evelyn Danso Boateng, the Eastern Regional Director of Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET); Jerry Osei-Poku, the Eastern Regional Director of Youth Employment Agency (YEA); Achiasehene; Daasebre Gyenin Kantan II; and Mercy Amoh Darkoah, the Eastern Regional NPP Women’s Organizer.
MP’s REMARKS
The Member of Parliament for the Achiase constituency, Hon. Kofi Ahenkorah Marfo, said that the objective of the free apprenticeship program is to equip participants, especially young people and the unemployed, with the skills they need to work independently.
He further indicated that startup capital would be given to participants and that some selected trainees would be supplied with the relevant kits needed.
The legislator also advised participants to utilize the knowledge they had acquired from the training, not only to positively impact their respective communities but also to better their livelihoods and the general well-being of their families.
He expressed his optimism for the program’s success, citing the numerous studies that demonstrate how apprenticeship training improves both general work abilities and trade-specific skills. He added that the goal of this program is to enable the people in his area to become self-employed, citing his obligation to improve their quality of life.
Hon. Kofi Ahenkorah Marfo declared that he would persist in maintaining faith with the people and be resolute in going above and beyond to create a society that benefited everyone.
PARLIAMENTARY PRIMARIES
Prior to the approaching parliamentary primaries of the New Patriotic Party, Hon. Ahenkorah Marfo cautions the people not to fall for any political candidate’s deception.
He implored NPP delegates to re-elect him as their parliamentary candidate, pointing to his exceptional capacity to advocate for more development projects for the constituency as well as for the party’s advancement.
In addition, he urged his constituents to continue giving him their prayers.
TVET
Mrs. Evelyn Danso Boateng, the Eastern Regional Director of Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET), stated that individuals possessing the necessary skills and competencies to spearhead industrial transformation are highly sought after, rather than those who would merely memorize facts.
For this reason, she applauded the action taken by the Achiase MP, NPP Women’s Wing, and Aseda Foundation. She so pleaded with all Ghanaian students to take into account exploring TVET since it is very beneficial.
If you pursue TVET, you can at least take steps toward becoming self-sufficient. You’ll work for yourself and employ others,’ she emphasized.
JOB CREATION
On his part, Hon. Bright Wireko Brobbey, the Deputy Minister of Employment and Labour Relations, said that TVET is the best solution to eradicate poverty in the country as compared to the traditional second cycle institutions.
He said that more employment for Ghanaians, graduates and not, will be made possible via TVET.
He feels that it is a pity that everyone aspires to work in the formal sector, even though it is oversupplied.
Thus, he advised the young people to focus on work in the informal sector, as that’s the most effective route.
Hon. Bright Wireko Brobbey commends the NPP government for the initiative’s significant improvement.
He also praised the NPP Women’s Wing and Hon. Kofi Ahenkorah Marfo, Achiase MP, for leveraging their lobbying abilities to put together an initiative of this nature for the people in the constituency.
In the upcoming parliamentary primaries, Hon. Bright Wireko Brobbey pleaded with the NPP delegates not to let the incumbent Member of Parliament down, as he has done a great job in his first term serving the party, constituency, and nation.
GRATEFULNESS
The beneficiaries conveyed their appreciation to their legislator, Hon. Kofi Ahenkorah Marfo, and the other sponsors for their kindness.
They also pledge to make sure that the initiative’s efforts won’t go in vain.
