A survivor of child trafficking who was trafficked from Ayensuano to Koforidua and was rescued by Engage Now Africa and reintegrated back to her family in the eastern region has been sexually exploited (defiled).
The perpetrators who sexually exploited the victim (Mary) were finally sentenced to seven years in prison.
According to Madame Lydia Ohenewaa Sarah, the manager of Engage Now Africa (End Modern Slavery), who is responsible for victims and survivors, due to the vulnerability of Mary and the family challenges the family is facing, she suggested to the family to be more vigilant and careful about where they live since their location is on the outskirts of the main town (Apiatu) at Ayensuano.
She also added to the Media that the community has a lot of children who are pregnant (teenage pregnancy), and our investigation found that most of them live with their single parents, and men take advantage of the vulnerable ones.
She also said she was not surprised that Mary was sexually exploited.
In conclusion, Madame Lydia suggested that the government should collaborate with CSOs to create awareness of child trafficking and WFCL and come out with a policy to support the victims and survivors.
Finally, she said the public does not have any knowledge of the worst forms of child labor laws. She is so happy that justice has been served.
Engage Now Africa remains a collaborative and coordinating organization to combat WFCL and child trafficking.
