Kasoa, Ghana — Apst. Sam Johnson, born Samuel Miles Okyere, is a name that continues to echo across pulpits, crusade grounds, and airwaves in Ghana.
Once a hiplife musician, today he stands as a committed servant of God, a gospel artist, head pastor, humanitarian, and seasoned radio preacher—embodying a powerful transformation fueled by divine calling.
Currently the Head Pastor of City of Holiness Mission International Church, Apst. Sam Johnson shepherds a Sabbath-keeping congregation with branches in both Kasoa and Odorkor. Originally founded as a Sunday church, he transitioned to Sabbath worship under direct instruction from God—a bold move that has since borne great spiritual fruit.
His influence also extends into humanitarian work. He serves as President of an NGO supporting the less privileged, which holds international partnerships in Austria. Known for village and city outreaches, Apst. Sam Johnson’s crusades are life-changing encounters that draw crowds seeking hope, healing, and deliverance.
Before his call to ministry, Apst. Sam Johnson was deeply rooted in Ghana’s music scene. He started as a hiplife artist and was part of a group originally known as Yankees, which later rebranded as Bush Babies under the mentorship of a Jamaican business manager. Known for his ragga flow and songwriting, he collaborated with notable producers like Mr. Poh (former drummer of Mega Star Band), Mr. Elisee of Elisee Beats, and the legendary Mr. Voltage—the very man who introduced him to music icon Ofori Amponsah. His group even featured in the music video Afia by King Williams ft. Kofi Nti & Voltage, marking a high point in his secular music journey.
He also served as an Associate Pastor to the late and revered Evang. Dr. Stephen Oduro of All Christians Centre Church, a man he honors deeply for shaping his early walk in ministry.
Today, Apst. Sam Johnson is a transformed vessel of God. Alongside his wife, Prophetess Olivia A. Okyere, a powerful woman of God and gospel musician, he leads Trumpet Records, their joint music label. The duo are registered members of MUSIGA (Musicians Union of Ghana), committed to producing gospel music that ministers to souls.
In 2024, he released his debut gospel album under Trumpet Records, and now returns with a new release titled “Onyame Ye”—a moving worship medley overflowing with anointing.
The song reflects his spiritual depth, musical maturity, and unwavering desire to glorify God through worship.
Listeners are encouraged to stream Onyame Ye now and experience the journey of a man who once stood in studios crafting hiplife lyrics, but now stands in sanctuaries and crusades declaring the goodness of the Lord.
