The New Patriotic Party (NPP) Supom Chairman in the Akyemansa District, Yaw Sam Nyamade, is serving a 12-month jail term over attempt to bribe the District Chief Executive (DCE) of the area, Paul Asamoah.

He explains that in the heat of the fight against illegal mining, District Chief Executive came to a mining site at Ofoase in the Eastern Region for an operation where boats and other equipment used for mining were destroyed and some confiscated.

So some group of illegal miners approached him and asked that he leads in their attempt to “find something” for Hon. Paul Asamoah who is the District Chief Executive (DCE) for Akyemansa District in the Eastern Region.

“So I went to see the DCE and asked whether he had received money from the people engaged in the galamsey but he said no. So I went back to inform them that the money had not got to the DCE. So the people involved in the galamsey said they will mobilize and get back to me.

“They finished with their mobilization and got back to me but this time, they did not get the 3,000 but rather they got 2,500. They said I should tell the DCE that they won’t engage in the acts again but they need their equipment. When I got to the DCE’s office, he requested for the money and I put it on his table. I wasn’t in the office for even five minutes when he brought in Policemen to arrest me,” he told crime check foundation.

He continued “I was in a state of shock by the DCE’s move. All I could think about then was the children I am leaving behind and the fact that my wife is no more. I have twins who are just two years and I take personal care of them. I tried to beg the DCE through some people but they did not go.
