National Service Scheme is mandated to deploy a pool of skilled manpower drawn primarily from tertiary institutions to support the development efforts of both the public and private sectors in Ghana.
As it is mandated by the constitution of Ghana that graduands from tertiary institutions are to serve the country for a year under the National Service Scheme to promote the well-being of the country.

As a result of this, the chairman of the Woodworkers Association in the Bono East region, Mr. Akwasi Gyan Dwomo has called on the National Service Secretariat and the government of Ghana to always include artisanal works among the areas where national Service personnel are posted to serve.

According to him, it is painful when artisanal workers are excluded from fields national service personnels are posted to serve. He said the artisans could have supported the government to reduce the unemployment rate if they are posted there.

Mr. Dwomo said most of the people after completing national service become jobless meanwhile if they had their national Service at artisanal works they would have gained some skills to create their own businesses to make living comfortable for themselves.

Finally, Mr . Akwasi Gyan Dwomo called on the government of Ghana to support artisans in the country because they play major roles to build the country and also reduce the unemployment rate.
He made all these known in an interview with Osomafo Kwame Owusu in Techiman, the Bono East regional capital.
