Spread the love

The government through the Ministry of Interior has declared Monday, August 5, as a public holiday to celebrate Founders Day.

In a statement dated July 31 and signed by Interior Minister Henry Quartey, the Ministry said the day is a statutory public holiday and the public should observe it as such throughout the country.

“Sunday, August 4th, 2024, marks Founders’ Day, which is a Statutory Public Holiday. However, in view of the fact that 4th August falls on a Sunday, His Excellency, the President of the Republic of Ghana, has by Executive Instrument (E.I.), in accordance with Section 2 of the Public Holidays and Commemorative Days Act (Act 601), declared Monday, 5th August, 2024, as an additional public holiday and should be observed as such throughout the country,” the statement read.

Founders’ Day serves not only as a day of reflection but also as a reminder of the values and principles upon which Ghana was built.

The holiday encourages citizens to appreciate the sacrifices made by the nation’s forebears and to continue working towards a prosperous and united Ghana. With the additional public holiday, the government aims to strengthen national unity and foster a deeper understanding of the country’s history among its people.
