Green Ghana: Leave Social Media Let’s Go To Our Lands And Plant Trees – Oti Regional Minister Tells #FixTheCountry Campaigners

Government initiative to restore the degraded forest lands through the planting of trees under the theme: ” Forest landscape restoration, planting five million trees in a day” has been launched in oti region.

Addressing the public, the oti regional minister Mr Joshua Gmayenaam Makubu, has thanked government on this initiative to restore our forest that has been degraded by human activities.

He said the Municipal and District Assemblies (MDAs) would enact appropriate and enforceable bye-laws to ban induced human activities that posed threats to the environment within their areas of jurisdictions.

He urged the security agencies to assist the Municipal and District Assemblies in the enforcement of these bye-laws.

He added ” I call on all those who supports the fix Ghana agenda to leave the social media and come down let get into our lands and plant the trees, I think it would be more beneficial getting onto our lands and planting trees than jumping on the street braking the trees that are already getting finished and come back and the problem wouldn’t have been solved, so fix Ghana people in oti region let’s get together and fix our environment, fix out trees and we’ll be fixing Ghana”

The minister has launched 150,000 tree planting project at Dambai, the regional capital.

The minister has quoted ” when the last tree dies, the last man dies” he therefore appeal to the good people of oti to lend massive support to the president’s initiative to make this year’s Green Ghana a success.

Mr Dickson Adjei Sakyi, Oti Regional Director of Forestry Commission, called on all people in the region to own the tree planting exercise to make it successful.

He said the Forestry Commission department has distributed free seedlings totalling 129,310 to the various stakeholders across the region and planting is ongoing.

The seedlings distributed, include Ofram, Neem, Mahogany, Gmelina, Cedrela, Cashew, Coconut, Cassia and Teak, he added

Nana Kwaku Beyornnor II, chief of Dambai in an exclusive with MyGhanaMedia.com oti regional correspondence, said the chiefs and traditional rulers are passionate and poised to support the initiative to bring back the rich and beautiful forest zone in our country.

Other dignities includes, regional co-ordinating director, Nananom, principal-Dambai college of education, religious leaders heads of departments, assembly members, teachers and students from the college together with the press where all there to witness the ceremony.
