Earlier this year, Confidence Adjei Community Development Projects (CACDeP) in partnership with Global Sovereign Peace Building Initiative (GSPBI) launched “The Peace and Development Tour 2022” as part of their effort to create awareness about the importance of Peace and development in every community. The first of this effort was captioned as EASTERN REGIONAL PEACE AND DEVELOPMENT TOUR 2022.

It was held under the auspices of Nana Baffour Obeng Bosompem I, the distinguished chief of Atimatim, Asamankese. The programme was said to be the first of its kind in the history of the community. As such, it received tremendous acclaim and active participation from the Atimatim township and its adjoining villages. It was a joyous moment for both the chief and his elders as well as the entire community. They danced and displayed their culture to express their joy in welcoming our initiative.

In setting the tone for the programme with a peace message, Foster Dela Gatsi, who spoke on behalf of the National President of Global Sovereign Peace Building Initiative, Mr Francis Doe, emphasised the importance of peace. He said peace is a crucial foundation for all development efforts and encouraged the community to cherish, embrace and protect it.

When peace breaks down, it must be rebuilt, maintained and sustained. But all these efforts are extremely expensive for which reason more attention must be dedicated to preventing peace-threatening situations. The gathering was encouraged to embrace inter-family, inter-tribal, religious and political tolerance and coexistence as a sustainable way of preventing conflicts that degenerate and threaten peace.

On his part, Confidence Adjei, who spoke on community development issues, assured the people to come together to build their communities. He said that unity and commitment on their part are the foundational ingredients that will facilitate development.

During an open forum, Atimatim and its communities presented their most pressing development needs for support. These include public toilets, water supply systems, community centre, refurbishment of chip compound and building of the chief Palace, among others.

The event also saw to the sod cutting for the construction of the first ever chief palace for the people of Atimatim. This building will serve as a monument of communal unity and assertiveness. The people of Atimatim and its environ pledged to fully support the peace campaign and development projects from GSPBI and CACDeP.

Now is the time to support the people of Atimatim to taste a better side of life – peace and development.
