I Am Not A ‘Sakawa Boy’ – Super Rich NPP Parliamentary Aspirant Cries Out

A stalwart of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the Bolgatanga East Constituency, Mr Silas Mathew Amoah,  has strenuously denied any involvement in internet fraud, known in the local parlance as Sakawa.

He emphasized that the accusation that he is involved in internet fraud is a deliberate attempt by his detractors and political opponents to discredit him for mainly political purposes.

Mr Amoah, who describes himself as a shrewd businessman, has expended so lavishly in the Constituency that he has left many tongues wagging. Some people have questioned his source of wealth given that he is not readily known as the owner of any major business within or without the Constituency. This has led to speculations that he is likely a fraudster.

But speaking in an interview with A1 Radio’s Joshua Asaah, Mr Amoah did not mince words in denying the claim and hitting hard at his accusers for seeking to bring his name into disrepute with such name-calling.

“My ears are on the ground. When someone wants to discredit you, most of our politicians do a lot of name-calling because we do things they cannot do. We help so much that they think it is not possible for somebody to help…I said it yesterday. I do business and the records are at the Registrar General, GRA, SSNIT. I am not just greedy. I just want to see people grow but they see the pace at which we are going, if they don’t find something to attach to our name, but thank God the people are smart. Even if it is Sakawa, they will eat and change,” he said.

He recently successfully filed his nomination forms to contest the NPP parliamentary primaries in Bolgatanga East Constituency.

He asked persons still in doubt of his source of wealth to verify his company records from the Registrar General’s Department and other state agencies such as the Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA) and Social Security and National Insurance Trust (SSNIT).

Mr Amoah, if he wins the Parliamentary primaries will face off with the Dr Dominic Ayine of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the 2024 parliamentary elections.
