Former Finance Minister and a Presidential candidate aspirant of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) Dr. Kwabena Duffuor has kicked start a 7-day campaign tour of the Ashanti Region today, Saturday, May 6, 2023.
Addressing a press conference on the tour, Dr. Kwabena Duffour said, “We are here to begin our campaign in the Ashanti region, you know what we or I am looking for …, I am contesting for the flagbearer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC).
Therefore, am here to rehearse what I can do for the party and the country if I get the nod to become the flagbearer and a substantive president of the republic of Ghana.
He said the decision to contest the presidential primaries was a demonstration of his commitment to the Party and the country.
He said that, “this defining moment is not about Kwabena Duffuor. It’s just a testament to my personal commitment to the Party, nation and national duty as a citizen to contribute to the betterment of the country, ” he said.
According to him, ‘Asanteman’ means a lot to him and he knows that there are a lot of questions awaiting for him to answer regarding the position he is contesting because the Ashanti region is where he comes from.
Vision for Delegates and Party Supporters
Dr. Kwabena Duffuor spoke on the need for the delegates to support him to become a flagbearer of the party.
The flagbearer hopeful reiterated his commitment to empowering the grassroots with his Ahotor Project.
He stated that the project is essential to keeping the NDC family financially vibrant.
According to him, the project is aimed at helping the grassroots of the party to be financially stable to run their operations efficiently in preparation for the NDC recapturing power in the 2024 general elections.
He said strengthening of the base of the Party and a good strategy were all the NDC needed to win the 2024 general election.
“For sometime now my aim has been to help strengthen the foundation, resource the base… so that we will have a strong Party to win the 2024 elections,” he said.
On Ghana’s Economy Crisis
Touching on the economy, Dr Duffour said the ‘hardships’ would be managed when the NDC assumed power in 2025.
“The task ahead is huge but it can be managed since some of us were able to deal with such situations in the past thereby restoring hope, national pride and return the economy to the path of recovery and growth,” he stated.
Dr Duffuor, who is seeking to lead the National Democratic Congress (NDC) as flagbearer in the 2024 presidential election, said he had the requisite skills and expertise to spearhead the rebound of the country’s ailing economy in the short term.
Dr. Duffuor will meet all delegates in the 47 constituencies in the region to spell out his vision to building a formidable party with vibrant grassroot for victory 2024.
He and his campaign team met the regional executives of the party before separately meeting delegates in various constituencies.
