Lawyers At Attorney General’s Office Operate In Containers – John Kumah Says

Lawyer John Kumah revealed that the Ministry of the Attorney General and Justice which is not able to provide conducive space should not be left handicapped in terms of resources.

It has been exposed in parliament that, some lawyers at the Attorney general’s office operate in containers due to inadequate resources.

 

 

Arguing on the floor of parliament, the Member of Parliament for Ejisu who is also a lawyer, Honourable John Kumah has revealed that, due to limited budgetary allocation for the Ministry of the Attorney General and Justice, the office is not able to provide conducive office space for most of the lawyers working there.

His comments were in relation to the approval of an amount of GHC 133,640,427 as the annual budget estimate for the Ministry for the year ending, 31st December 2021 for goods and services.

 

 

He mentioned that, in 2020, the Ministry’s effort stopped a possible judgement debt of GHC 598 billion which could have brought the country’s economy into crisis.

According to the lawmaker, if a Ministry of its kind is helping the country in these serval diverse ways, it should not be left handicap in terms of resources.

Commenting on how to expand the campus of the Ghana law school, he noted that, the Ministry of finance should take into consideration how to resource the office to be able to add more facilities to accommodate more law students.

Mr John Kumah told that the Ghana Law school has arranged to open another campus at Legon Campus in order to to take more students.
