The flagbearer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) John Mahama has cautioned persons spreading disinformation regarding the election date schedule, stating that they could face prosecution if the NDC wins the 2024 general election.

This warning comes in response to the arrest of Kumasi-based radio and television presenter, Oheneba Nana Asiedu who allegedly encouraged voters to cast their ballots for presidential candidates on separate days during the upcoming December elections.

The Kumasi-based radio and television presenter was granted bail by the Ghana Police Service after his arrest on Saturday, November 23, 2024. The arrest stemmed from charges of publishing false news.

Asiedu was invited by the Ashanti Regional Police Command on Friday, November 22, 2024, following allegations that he had encouraged voters to cast their ballots for presidential candidates on separate days during the upcoming December general elections.

The statement, which quickly spread on social media, was described by the Ghana Police Service as “false and likely to disturb the public peace.”

According to police, the comments had the potential to create confusion among voters and undermine public confidence in the integrity of the electoral process.

Mahama while addressing constituents in Prestea Huni Valley in the Western Region on Wednesday, during the final leg of his three-day campaign tour of the area called on the public to disregard such reports

“We are all voting on the same day. The lie being propagated by the NPP that some will vote on the 7th and others on the 8th should be disregarded.

“Those spreading this disinformation should be careful because it is a crime. If they continue, we are taking notice of them, and if the NDC comes into government, we will arrest all of them,” he said.
