A private legal practitioner, Martin Kpebu has announced his intention to unveil the identity of a current minister of state who owns four expansive mansions in the upscale suburb of East Legon in Accra.
Kpebu revealed that a confidential source, whose anonymity he seeks to safeguard, accompanied him to East Legon, where he was shown the four multimillion-dollar mansions privately owned by a specific minister of state.
During a panel discussion on TV3’s Key Point Show on August 5, 2023, the legal expert stated that he plans to disclose the identity of the minister linked to the lavish residences.
“A few months ago, someone took me to East Legon and pointed out four houses belonging to a particular minister. This minister has possessed them since assuming office. I have discussed this matter before. We will address it. Fear not death,” he affirmed.
Kpebu further advocated for the enactment of legislation that would safeguard individuals who expose unlawfully amassed wealth by government officials. He encouraged citizens to step forward courageously and reveal any suspicious wealth held by public officers, which could contribute to combating corruption.
He stressed the importance of publishing officials’ assets and conducting automatic lifestyle audits as they leave their positions to effectively tackle corruption and illicit wealth acquisition.
Regarding the ongoing investigation into the significant amounts of money and assets associated with former Minister of Water and Sanitation, Mrs. Cecilia Dapaah, Kpebu’s comments underscore the broader need for transparency and accountability in public office.
