North East Regional Council of State election
The Electoral Commission (EC) has declared Saaka Abuba as the Council of State representative for the North East region following a re-run on Monday morning, February 17.
In the brief exercise, Mr Abuba secured seven votes out of a total of 12 cast, while his opponent, Asabigi San Malunga Nasamu, had five votes, thus confirming Mr Abuba’s victory.
In the initial election held last week, both candidates received an equal number of votes, six each, in a peaceful and highly competitive race. As a result, the EC rescheduled the exercise, which took place today, Monday.
Out of the 16 regions, only the Ashanti region remains unresolved following a chaotic incident that disrupted the election and led to its closure. The EC has yet to organise a re-run in the Ashanti region.
