Assembly members of the Atwima Nwabiagya municipality in the Ashanti Region have rejected the president’s nominee for the Municipal Chief Executive position.
The nominee, Hon. Micheal Amoah Awuku , only managed to secure19 YES votes from the 31 assembly members who voted.
Mr. Amoah Awuku, was expected to secure two-thirds majority required for him to be confirmed as the new MCE for the Atwima Nwabiagya Municipal Municipal Assembly.
Prior to the elections, Ashanti Regional Minister, Hon. Simon Osei-Mensah, pleaded with the assembly members to endorse the President’s nominee to facilitate development in the area.
But MyGhanaMedia News’ oheneba reports that only 19 out of the 31 assembly members voted for Mr. Micheal Amoah Awuku.
The assembly members, at an election to approve or reject the nominee on Friday, September 24, 2021, did not give the Mr. Amoah Awuku the adequate number of votes to get him approved.
Members of the assembly are expected to converge after 10 days for the second round of the voting process to confirm or reject the MCE nominee.
