Below is the statement:
WE COMMEND THE GOVERNMENT OF GHANA FOLLOWING FINANCIAL CLEARANCE TO ENGAGE OVER 6, 387 NURSING PROFESSIONALS – Union Of Health Students
March 31st,2023
The Executives and entire membership of the Union Of Health Students wish to express our profound gratitude to the Government of Ghana by President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo through the Ministry of Finance and Ministry of Health for this massive health sector recruitment, despite the current economic turmoil facing Countries across the globe including Ghana.
We make specific reference to the Ministry of Finance’s letter dated 15th November 2022, titled “FINANCIAL CLEARANCE- NURSE ASSISTANT CLINICAL AND NURSE ASSISTANT
PREVENTIVE”, wherein the financial clearance is granted to the Ministry of Health to engage Six Thousand, Three Hundred And Eighty-Seven (6,387) Nurse Assistant Clinical and Nurse Assistant Preventive professionals who completed in 2019, and June 2020, and a further approval to engage 2019 Degree and Diploma referral batch.
The immediate impact of this intervention is the reduction in unemployment and improved patient-health-worker ratio, consequently leading to improved quality healthcare delivery in Ghana.
This will go a long way in buttressing our health care system, robust enough to protect lives and absorb shocks as brain drain hits the health system.
We have no shred of doubt at all that these health professionals who will eventually be engaged will give all their to achieve government health sector goals.
Unlike Mahama’s Government which didn’t employ a lot of trainees in the health care system after being trained to leave a huge backlog of trained health professionals at home, the NPP Government cleared the huge backlog left by them and is still employing us in these difficult moments and being faced by Countries across the world due to COVID-19 and Russia/Ukraine wars.
In the spirit of good fate, we would like to express our great appreciation to the Government of Ghana for its responsiveness, and sensitivity, for putting food on our table by employing our colleagues, and above all its commitment to safeguarding the lives of the citizenry.
Thank You
