The National Labour Commission (NLC) has ordered the Ghana Association of University Administrators (GAUA) to suspend any planned industrial action, as it moves to resolve a dispute over the Ghana Tertiary Education Commission’s (GTEC) alleged non-compliance with a previous ruling.
In a statement issued on Wednesday, June 25, 2025, the Commission acknowledged receipt of GAUA’s petition on the matter and referred all parties to its earlier communication dated June 9, which directed engagement between GAUA and GTEC. The NLC set a deadline of July 9, 2025, for both sides to report the outcome of those talks.
“The Union is therefore directed to refrain from any intended action… since parties are scheduled to appear before the Commission on 9th July, 2025 at 11:00 a.m. for reporting,” the statement stated.
As part of the directive, GTEC has also been instructed to submit a formal response regarding the allegation of non-compliance by the close of business on Friday, June 27. If the Commission’s orders have been fulfilled, GTEC is required to provide supporting evidence to that effect.
