The Member of Parliament (MP) for the Akyem Oda Constituency, Alexander Akwasi Acquah, has refuted claims by, MP for Assin North, that he has been coerced to support Dr Mahamudu Bawumia in the November 4 flagbearership contest.

In a statement issued on Friday, Mr Acquah expressed his disappointment in the allegations, indicating that they “not only disparage my integrity but also undermine my role as a representative of a prominent constituency in the Eastern Region, Akyem-Oda.”

He stated that he had not, at any point, been subjected to any form of intimidation or coercion about a project within his constituency and that he possessed the fortitude to make political decisions independently, devoid of undue influence, inducement, or threats.

Mr Acquah stressed that his endorsement of Dr Bawumia as a presidential candidate was founded on his conviction that he possessed the capability to lead the NPP to a decisive victory in the election of 2024.

He also clarified that the inception of the Akyem Oda Central Market predated the heightened intensity of the NPP presidential race and that the market was a testament to the loyalty and support that the Akyem Oda constituency had demonstrated to the NPP over several years.

“I have, as MP, actively advocated for projects that contribute to the development of my constituency. The inception of the Akyem Oda Central Market predates the heightened intensity of the NPP presidential race. This market, which caters to three regions, numerous districts, and municipalities, has consistently been a governmental priority. Its monumental value is not lost on the people of Akyem Oda, and it rightfully stands as a testament to the loyalty and support our constituency has demonstrated to the NPP over several years.”

“I remain confident that the NPP government will complete it for the benefit of the residents of Akyem Oda and its surroundings. It is regrettable, that a suggestion could be made, that delegates from Akyem Oda will cast their votes for Dr. Bawumia solely due to the construction of the Akyem Oda Central Market.

Mr Acquah concluded his statement by calling on all stakeholders to prioritize constructive dialogue and collaboration as they approached the November 4 primaries. He also thanked the residents of the Akyem Oda Constituency for their unwavering support and trust in his leadership.
