On Saturday, September 11, 2021, a video emerged on social media with commentary by a man who identified himself as Strongman, claiming to be NDC’s ‘serial callers executive’. In the video, he alleged, while standing by an electricity transformer, that President Akufo-Addo had come to Anfoega Community in the Volta Region just to commission a transformer.
The video which has gone viral has generated a lot of controversy on social media, with a section of people supporting the claim by the man while others accuse him of misinforming people on the reason for the president’s visit.
Fact-Check Ghana has verified the video and presents the facts below.
On Friday, September 10, 2021, President Akufo-Addo was on a one-day tour to the Volta and Oti regions. The president was scheduled to commission a newly built lorry park and a storm drainage system for the Anfoega Community in the North Dayi District of the Volta Region.
The team at Fact-Check Ghana spoke to a number of people in the area including the Assembly Member for the Aveme Electoral Area, Albert Atta Avor, who was part of the delegation of the Chiefs and elders of Anfoega that welcomed the president on Friday.
The facts indicate that the president, after meeting with the chiefs and elders in the community, could not go to the grounds to commission the lorry park and the storm drainage facility which is opposite the Anfoega Akukorme Roman Catholic Basic School. This is because his engagement was interrupted by a downpour.
A plaque, which was supposed to be unveiled at the commissioning, read “This plaque was unveiled by HE Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo (President of the Republic of Ghana) to Commemorate the Commissioning of Anfoega Lorry park and Storm Drain funded by DPAT-NDDA and CODA respectively on 10th September 2021.”
The sources also said the Transformer which Strongman stood by to make the video is not new and has been in existence long before the building of the new Lorry Park.
Based on the facts above, it is false to state that President Akufo-Addo commissioned an ECG Transformer at Anfoega in the Volta region.

In short, Manasseh Azure Awuni is urging Ghanaians not to believe in such news because that is not true and the truth is that, Nana Addo did not commission any transformer in the Volta Region.
