Residents living in Sakra Ownoo in the Kwabre East  Constituency in the Ashanti Region have threatened the government over their deplorable road network linking the other communities.

According to the farmers and drivers who use the said route says that they will not allow any E.C officials in their community in this year’s election if their poor roads network are not fixed immediately.

According to them, they have been facing this huge challenge for over then 30 years now and nothing has been done about it despite their several complaints and now calling on the Government to come to their aid.

Speaking to Silver FM’s Akwadaa Nyame, they revealed that the road was constructed by former President Jerry John Rawlings in the year 1979 and they said whenever it is rain, they find it very difficult to go to the regional capital to trade and farmers, on the other hand, cannot even go to their farms work due to the flooded nature of it.

However, they “When it’s time for vote, Ghanaian leadership will come around and after voting none of them will even decide to pay a visit to us”.

They accused the Member of Parliament for  Kwabre East Constituency, Hon. Francisca Oteng Mensah  and Mr Bernard Antwi Bosiako aka chairman Wontumi who is the Ashanti regional NPP chairman and the municipal assembly for failing to honour their promises  of constructing their road for them after the death of the Mr Kwadwo Owusu Afriyie aka Sir John who hailed from the Ownoo community.

“The MP of this Constituency (Kwabre East) promise us that the road will be constructed during the 2016 campaign”, they said. They added that, Chairman Wontumi after the death of Sir John promise to complete the road which was started by Sir John when he was alive to glorified him and also as reward for his good work in the party and the country  but after the burial of Sir John, the contractor who was at the site by then has packed all his tools and is nowhere to be found.

Moreover, Some farmers also lamented that there was a time that a car bringing their farm produce to Kumasi, due to the poor road had an accident and all their goods destroyed.

Traders lose their lives when they travel to Kumasi to sell their foodstuffs, pregnant women are being carried in tricycles from Ownoo to Asonomaso government hospital which is near and sometimes Mamponteng or Tafo hospital.

Some of the farmers lamented that, if the government refuse to do something about the road especially the collapse bridge linking Ownoo to Asonomaso, they will not vote.

The Assembly member in  the area Hon Andrew Obeng Agyemang also lamented that, they will demonstrate against the current government because, if it’s time for the election, “these Leaders will come to our communities and promise us but after the election, they will never step a foot here”.

The residents went “mad” over the MP and threatened her not to try to come around else they will beat her.
