NPP’s 2024 Housing Manifesto: A Repetition Of Unfulfilled Promises – National Tenants’ Union

The leadership of the National Tenants’ Union of Ghana has expressed its profound disappointment with the housing policy proposals outlined in the 2024 Housing Manifesto of the New Patriotic Party (NPP).

According to the union, there have been glaring inconsistencies, broken promises, and recycled proposals that characterised the NPP’s approach to the housing policy since 2016.

This comes on the heels of Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia’s statement at the party’s manifesto launch in Takoradi on Sunday, August 18, where he mentioned that the next NPP administration would roll out a National Housing Programme to incentivise the private sector to provide Ghanaians with access to decent, affordable housing in livable and well-planned settlements.

However, reacting to the promise, Secretary-General of the National Tenants’ Union of Ghana, Fredrick Opoku, stated that the recent manifesto launch only confirmed the concerns and fears of the union’s members.

“We are very much worried about the promises every now and then, every year promises, every election year, we hear this politician coming to give promises.

“I remember as Secretary-General of the National Tenants Union of Ghana, I have been part and parcel of so many teams and negotiations but to no avail so I was surprised that the NPP came out with recycled promises while those that they made in 2016 and 2020 are unfulfilled.”
