The importance of water to human beings cannot be overemphasised. Water promotes improved health, livelihoods and general well-being. Indeed, it is often said that Water is Life and no strategy for poverty reduction can ignore people’s vital requirement for safe water.

Sadly, thousands of schools in Ghana do not have access to this vital need. It is not uncommon to find students walking distance from campus in search of safe water but only ending up fetching water from contaminated water sources. Forty-nine percent of public schools lack access to safe water on their premises according to Education Management Information System (EMIS 2018).

St. Hubert Seminary Senior High School in the Ashanti Region is one of the government Senior High Schools that do not have access to portable drinking water for so many years which has been affecting students and teachers on their daily activities at the school.

A member of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP), Hajia Fati Amadu popularly known as Alege Mama has commissioned a mechanized borehole estimated at Gh 50,000.00 to St. Hubert Seminary SHS to resolved water insufficiency in the school.

Mr. Steven Okyere, the Special Aid to Hajia Fati Adamu, who stood in for her during a short ceremony in commissioning and handing it over to the school, asserted that they have embarked on a campaign to make access to portable water accessible to all people especially in deprived schools and communities in Ghana.

He revealed that the project was in response to the appeal by the school authorities made to his boss when they visited her office.

Mr. Elvis Osei Dapaah, a businessman and philanthropist who helped with the construction of the project applauded Alege Mama for her selfless, committed and sacrificial attitude in ensuring that deprived schools and communities have access to portable drinking water.

He urged Ghanaians especially those who has the capability to help others to exhibit the willingness attitude to sacrifice and release support to those who are in need.

Mr. Elvis again tasked the school authorities to take good care of the project and promised to come to their aid whenever it develops fault.

He took the opportunity and pleaded with government and NGO’s to come to their aid because his school lacks basics amenities like, dormitories, teachers bungalow, classrooms and and furnitures and it’s really affecting the activities of the school.
