Obiri Boahen Calls On Government To Complete Krofuom Market Before December Elections

Spread the love

Private legal practitioner Nana Obiri Boahen has urged the government to finish the Krofuom Market ahead of the December 7 general elections.

Initiated in 2008 by former President John Agyekum Kufuor, the market project has suffered neglect, with successive governments failing to fulfill their promises for its completion.

The facility, comprising over two thousand stores, has remained unfinished for 15 years, hindering trade and commercial activities. Its completion is essential for reducing congestion in Kumasi’s central business district.

Currently, the market area is overrun by weeds and serves as a refuge for suspected criminals and drug addicts.

Lawyer Nana Obiri Boahen suggested the government could transfer the project to a private investor to ensure its completion.

In an interview, he mentioned that finishing the market should not be a problem in an election year.

He also advised against taking loans to complete the stalled market, expressing frustration that Ghanaians are not taking decentralization seriously.

He emphasized that managing an African country is not difficult, but the policies leaders implement often complicate governance.

Lawyer Nana Obiri Boahen, urged African politicians and intellectuals to heed his comments.
