Family and friends of Ghanaian striker Raphael Dwamena were at the Kotoka International Airport (KIA) on Friday night as his mortal remains arrived for final funeral rites.
Prayers were said and short tributes were paid as the family took delivery of the body ahead of funeral and burial rites in Ghana.
The Abanian-based striker collapsed in his side KF Egnatia’s league game against Partizani on Saturday, November 11.
It was in the 23rd minute with no challenge on him. Efforts to resuscitate him proved futile as he gave up the ghost on the way to the Kavajë Hospital after emergency care was administered on-pitch.
Tributes have poured in from family and friends with his mother sharing some of his good deeds on Maakye on Onua FM/TV last Tuesday.
The family, on the flagship morning show, expressed sadness that the family has been kept in the dark regarding the whereabouts of the body of the footballer.
But on Friday, just moments after Dwamena’s former teammates celebrated a 1-0 win over Madagascar in the opening qualifier for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, his body arrived at KIA.
Wrapped in a black polythene sack, the coffin was immediately draped in Ghanaian colours.
Among those present were footballers, notably Godwin Attram, relatives including his wife and officials from the Ghana Football Association (GFA).
