Physician Assistants Suspend Nationwide Strike Action

Spread the love

The Ghana Physician Assistants Association (GAPA) has temporarily called off its nationwide strike action against the proposed legislative amendment of Act 857 by the Ghana Medical and Dental Council. The association had withdrawn its services from health facilities nationwide, citing mistreatment and discrimination against their profession.

Following the strike, the National Labour Commission directed the Ministry of Health to engage with the Physician Assistants within 28 days to address their concerns. However, the GAPA expressed disappointment as the Ministry of Health and other relevant agencies failed to attend the meeting. Despite this, the Ministry for Labour Relations and Employment represented the government during the discussion.

After the meeting, GAPA’s National President, Peter Akugudu Ayamba, announced that based on the intervention of the Labour Commission and their commitment as law-abiding citizens and a union, they are calling on their members to resume work. The strike has been temporarily suspended, and the Physician Assistants are awaiting further engagement and clear measures to address their concerns within the specified timeframe.
