President Akufo-Addo To Deliver 8th State Of The Nation Address On 9th March

President Akufo-Addo will on Tuesday, March 9, deliver the first State of the Nation Address after his inauguration as president for his second term.

The President is set to reveal the state of various sectors of the economy following his second term in office.

Speaker Alban Sumana Bagbin made the announcement, Monday, during an engagement at Parliament after receiving an indication from the president.

According to him, the president is acting in accordance with Article 67 of the 1992 constitution which states that “the President shall, at the beginning of each session of Parliament and before a dissolution of Parliament, deliver to Parliament a message on the state of the nation”.

President Akufo-Addo on January 5, 2021, delivered his last State of the Nation Address which was in line with the Presidential Transition Act, 2012 (Act 842) of the constitution following the end of his first term office.

Speaker Alan Bagbin has also disclosed that “in accordance with Article 179 of the constitution, Nana Akufo-Addo has given a further indication that the budget for 2021 will be presented on Friday, March 12, 2021, for consideration and approval.”

 

Meanwhile,  Parliamentary Affairs Minister designate, and also leader for the government business, Osei Kyei Mensah Bonsu, on 2nd march 2021, has presented the business statement for the seventh week to the house after parliament resume sitting today.
The Speaker of Parliament, Alban Bagbin suspended activities of the house after 17 MPs and over 150 staff tested positive for the coronavirus.
According to MyGhanaMedia’s reporter, Philomena  Kuntu Blankson says members of parliament and its staff have been tested once again ahead of the resumption of activities in the house.
The business statement has it that until the house  adjourns sine die by 30th March 2021, the house would be expected to consider some very critical businesses which includes the approval of nominees of H.E the president for ministerial appointment.
The Member of Parliament for Suame noted that the house will receive the president to deliver a message on the state of the nation.
Again the house would also debate for the approval of the financial policy of government for the year ending 31st December 2021.
He also mentioned that the minister designate for health is scheduled to brief the house on the Covid -19 situation in the country including the ongoing vaccination exercise.
