Sir John Is Saddened By Theresa Kufuor’s Heartbreaking Passing.

Following the passing of  Mrs. Theresa Kufuor, the wife of the former president John Agyekum Kufuor, John Kwame Duodu, affectionately known as Sir John, has expressed his sincere condolences on behalf of the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the Atwima Nwabiagya South of the Ashanti Region.

Sir John, the patron of the Ashanti Regional TESCON, praised the former first lady’s tenure as impactful and full of lovely memories and legacies in a statement obtained by MyGhanaMedia.com.

He said, “I wish to extend our profound condolences to the family of President John Agyekum Kufuor on behalf of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) members and the people of Atwima Nwabiagya South Constituency.”

He commended Theresa Kufuor’s debate prowess as well as his efforts for the NPP and Ghana in general.

“Her Excellency Theresa Kufuor, may your passing soul remain with us and strengthen us in the holy enterprise of retaining power to rebuild and reposition Ghana,” she said.

Mrs. Kufuor died at her home in Peduase, surrounded by her family, on Sunday, October 1, aged 87.

Mrs Kufuor was Ghana’s First Lady from January 7, 2001, to January 6, 2009, after her husband, John Agyekum Kufuor, assumed the presidency, succeeding Jerry John Rawlings.

During her time as First Lady, she established the Mother to Child Community Development Foundation, which aimed to promote the healthy development of children and prevent the transmission of diseases from mothers to their offspring.

Theresa married John Kufuor when he was at age 23 after they met at a Republic Day Anniversary Dance in London in 1961.

They got married in 1962. She has five children with John Kufuor.

Theresa Kufuor, born on October 25, 1935, in Kumasi, Ghana, led a life marked by unwavering dedication to her country and its citizens.
