Members of Ghana’s 7th Parliament of the fourth Republic have reconvened after weeks of recess.
Their sitting is ahead of the dissolution of the House. The decision to reconvene is upon the directive of the Speaker, Prof. Aaron Mike Oquaye in accordance with Order 6 of the Standing Orders of the House.
Parliament went on recess in November 2020, in preparation for the just-ended general election and is currently in its fourth session.
He noted that as per practice of the House the President of the Republic, His Excellency Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo will deliver a message on the State of the Nation prior to the dissolution of the House, as a fulfillment of Article 67 of the 1992 Constitution.
Also, according to the Constitution, the House must see to the approval of the Executive component of the conditions of Article 71 office holders report before the dissolution of the House.
He further congratulated all members who sailed through the just ended elections and consoled those who could not make it and wish them better luck next time. The Speaker of Parliament urged all members of parliament to brace themselves for the task ahead in the interest of our country
He is optimistic that members shall cooperate with one another to make the 7th Parliament end on a very sound and peaceful, loving manner.
Speaker made this known in his welcome address of the continuation of the sitting of the Fourth session of the seventh parliament.
