Statement On Inciteful Comments By Suame Constituency Youth Organizer Of The National Democratic Congress

Our attention has been drawn to a viral video by the Youth Organizer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) at the Suame Constituency calling for violence as part of a grand scheme to win the 2024 general elections.

In the said video, the unapologetic Suame NDC Youth Organizer is heard admonishing members of the NDC, particularly the youth, to arm themselves to cause harm and mayhem that may be necessary in securing NDC electoral victory in the 2024 elections. In the said video, he indicated that he was ready to do whatever it takes to secure victory for his party even if it will mean recording casualties.

Among others the Suame Youth Organizer intimated that:

He together with the youth group will beat up any member of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) who attempts to work against their survival in the constituency.
Power is not secured with the rule of law or from the Bible, and that they are ready to do anything in the constituency to secure power for John Mahama even if it means killing two people.

He is encouraging the youth to prepare and arm themselves when going out. That, they intend not to harm NDC members but those of the NPP by clubbing or shooting to guarantee NDC’s victory.
They are ready to kill for power.

More worryingly, the youth organiser intimated that the newly elected national executives support the stance enumerated above.

You will recall that in the lead up to the 2020 general elections, former President Mahama unequivocally stated that the NDC was unparalleled regarding violence due to their revolutionary roots, a statement that was widely condemned.

The Ashanti Regional Youth Wing of the New Patriotic Party condemns in no uncertain terms, these inciteful and ludicrous comments capable of undermining our enviable democratic credentials as a Nation.

We call on the Catholic Bishops Conference, Christian Council, Muslim Leadership, Traditional Authorities, National Peace Council, Civil Society Organizations, Diplomatic Corps and all well meaning Ghanaians to condemn this nation wrecking conduct, and admonish the youth of our motherland to refrain from violence, before, during and after election 2024.

Additionally, we encourage all relevant law enforcement agencies to treat the aforementioned with all the urgency it deserves to restore public confidence and serve as a deterrent against the pursuit of unwarranted violent actions underpinned by the quest for political power.

The New Patriotic Party as a democratic party believes in the rule of law, respect for human rights, natural justice and political tolerance and would continue to conduct our affairs in line with the 1992 Constitution and all other statutes and laws that guide political processes in Ghana.

To this end, we urge all stakeholders in the political landscape to commit to protecting our democracy, peace and gains made thus far.
