Some branch executives of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the Techiman South Constituency led by Kwadwo Adjei are calling on the leadership of the party to withdraw the election petition currently at the Wenchi High Court and rather concetrate on resolving the internal differences for victory in 2024.
Addressing journalists on Tuesday, July 20 at Techiman, Mr Adjei said the petition has made it difficult for the party to mend the internal wranglings, which portends defeat for the party in the next parliamentary elections.
He said many branch executives are not happy with the turn of events and would rather the party concentrated on the 2024 polls.
Speaking in local language Twi, Mr Adjei said some of the constituency leaders are not even happy with the way the party’s General Secretary Johnson Asiedu Nketia is handling the case.
“The internal problem is very big, so we want the leadership to look back at the toil of branch executives like us which even led to the defeat and concentrate on the internal issues to get resolved so that we can secure victory.”
He called on the national and regional executives to persuade the 2020 Parliamentary Candidate, Christopher Beyere Baasongti, to “forget” about the case so that he can concentrate on the next elections.
Other branch executives present said the party does not belong to any leader but the youth at the grassroots level so their demands must be considered,
The election petition was filed by Mr Baasongti against the Electoral Commission, Ghana (EC) and Martin Adjei-Mensah Korsah, the declared winner, at the Wenchi High Court for irregularities in collation of results and subsequent declaration.
On the night of declaration on Monday, December 7, 2020, the military were called in and three rioters were shot dead.
The case was last heard on Wednesday, July 14.
Presiding judge Justice Frederick Arnold Nawurah adjourned hearing to Friday, July 30.
