President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has criticized the previous 8-year tenure of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), stating that it brought infamy to Ghana due to prominent issues like the recurring power outages known as ‘dumsor,’ mismanagement of the economy, flawed energy contracts, and widespread corruption.
He emphasized that such negative occurrences should not be allowed to happen again in the country.
The President made these remarks during a meeting with communicators of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) at the Jubilee House on August 2, 2023. He urged all members of the NPP to unite ahead of the 2024 general elections and select a flagbearer who can secure a decisive victory against the NDC’s John Dramani Mahama.
While the NPP plans to hold a special delegates congress in August 2023 to narrow down the 10-member aspirants for the party’s flagbearer position to five, the ultimate presidential candidate for the 2024 general elections will be selected in the November 2023 contest. The President expressed his commitment to working with all party members who share the objective of winning the 2024 elections and ensuring the party’s success in parliamentary seats as well.
