University of Ghana Lifts Ban On Social Gatherings As COVID-19 Cases Decline

The University of Ghana has lifted the restriction on social gatherings on its campus following a significant decline in reported COVID-19 cases.

In a statement issued by the Office of Student Affairs on Monday, July 14, the University announced that the ban, which was imposed on Thursday, June 26, has been officially lifted with immediate effect.

According to the statement, the decision was taken in consultation with the University Health Services and the University Management.

“The Office of Student Affairs, in consultation with the University Health Services and University Management, wishes to inform the entire university community that the restriction on social gatherings on the University of Ghana campus due to the resurgence of COVID-19 has been lifted with immediate effect,” the statement read.

The initial restriction was part of a set of emergency measures introduced after a reported resurgence of COVID-19 infections on campus. It affected events and activities organised by student groups, departments, halls, and religious associations.

With the ban now lifted, student bodies including the SRC, GRASAG, JCRs, religious groups, and departmental or school associations have been granted permission to resume their activities and weekly celebrations.

However, the statement emphasised the need for continued adherence to health protocols. “Note that all COVID-19 protocols should be adhered to. Your cooperation is greatly appreciated,” the university stated.
