President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has finally commented on his appointment of Commissioner of Police (COP) Christian Tetteh Yohuno as the new Deputy Inspector-General of Police (IGP) in charge of Operations.
The president’s decision to appoint COP Yohuno as the IGP in charge of Operations sparked controversy in the country, with some suggesting that his action was intended to diminish the authority of the current IGP, Dr. George Akuffo Dampare.
Speaking at the commissioning of 320 homes for personnel of the Ghana Police Service, Akufo-Addo praised COP Yohuno.
He stated that the new Deputy IGP would be in charge of Operations and expressed his complete faith in his capabilities.
“I would like to take this opportunity to congratulate the long-serving and respected law enforcement officer, Commissioner of Police Mr. Christian Tetteh Yohuno, on his promotion to the office of Deputy Inspector General of Police with responsibility for operations.
“I have no doubt that, as in the past, Deputy Yohuno will be a valuable team player and will contribute fully to the success of an effective and efficient police service,” he said.
