The Ashanti Regional Chairman for the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Bernard Antwi Bosiako, (Chairman Wontumi) has refuted claims that Naana Jane Opoku Agyemang, the running mate for the National Democratic Congress’ (NDC) flagbearer, John Dramani Mahama hails from the Central Region.

Speaking on Northern Go FM he indicated that Professor Naana Jane Opoku Agyemang traces her origin to the Northern Region.

He challenged her to produce her birth certificate to deny his claim.

“I Wontumi says Nana Opoku Agyemang is not from the Central Region. I challenge Nana Opoku Agyemang. She is from the Northern Region. Wherever you come from, you must be proud of it. My wife and family are from the Central Region. Naana Opoku Agyemang is not from Central Region she should refute this claim with her birth certificate. She is from the Northern Region,” he added.

According to him, Professor Naana Jane got married to an Ashanti man, Mr Opoku Agyemang, where they both worked at Cape Coast University (UCC).

He added the marriage collapsed after 20 years, as such she kept the name “Opoku Agyemang”.

“She and her husband from the Ashanti Region, Mr Opoku Agyemang. They worked at Cape Coast University. As they worked, they studied with each other and got married and took the man’s name,” he added.
