FC Samartex have won the 2023/24 Ghana Premier League title following their win over Bibiani GoldStars on Sunday, June 2 at the Nsenkyire Sports Complex.
The Timber giants unlocked a new milestone in their history just a season after being promoted into Ghana’s top flight.
Nurudeen Amadu’s men won the league title with two games to spare after Aduana and Medeama SC were handed defeats in their respective games over the weekend.
Emmanuel Mamah clinched the crucial goal moments before halftime, propelling his team into the lead in a moment that would ultimately define the match.
Persistent heavy downpours caused a delay in the game, making the pitch unsuitable for play. However, after thorough interventions and inspections, the match resumed, with the entire second half going ahead.
The Nsenkyire Stadium erupted with joyous scenes as die-hard fans celebrated with unbridled emotion and excitement.
Samartex’s victory signifies a rare occurrence in the Ghana Premier League, as no champion has successfully defended their title since Asante Kotoko in 2014.
They now join the esteemed ranks of clubs from the Western Region to claim the Ghana Premier League crown, following in the footsteps of Sekondi Eleven Wise, Hasaacas, and Medeama SC, who won the competition last season.
Across 32 matches, Samartex won 18 games, drew four and suffered 10 defeats powering them to success.
