The Western north regional branch of the Ghana Association of Assembly Members (GAAM) has explicitly condemned the military attack on Hon. Mohammed Abdullah, Assembly Member for the Zongo electoral area, and the Zongo community in the Bibiani-Anhwiaso-Bekwai Municipality.

They have criticised the military officers’ brutal and unwarranted conducts.

Hon. Ackah Nelson Frank, the regional President in an interview with the press, explained unequivocally that the association considered it an honour to call on the interior minister and the relevant stakeholders to bring to book the perpetrators of the tragic incident that transpired last week, injuring about five residents, including the assembly member.

He resolved, however, to urge the authorities to take decisive powers to guarantee that such impunity would not occur again.

“In no uncertain terms, we denounce the military officers’ indiscipline’’.

‘‘We considered it an honour to request that the Interior Minister, Hon. Ambrose Dery, the Minister for Lands and Natural Resources Hon. Samuel Abdulai Jinapor, the Inspector General of Police (IGP), Dr George Akufo Dampare, and the relevant stakeholders to conduct an in-depth investigation into the matter and bring the culprits to book’’.

Hon. Ackah Nelson Frank remarked with disgust the military officers’ constant behaviours at Zongo, which, according to the country’s laws, amounts to crime.

‘‘Furthermore, if the authorities do not take prompt action against the outrageous activities, the association will be forced to take the matter up’’, He emphasised.

“The assembly member did not wrong to intercede on behalf of his people, so why brutalised him’’.

He says they have observed the military officials’ unpleasant behaviour in Zongo and Old-Town, which appears to impinge on the rights of the people and even assembly members.

‘‘As a matter of importance, we give the authorities a few days to act expeditiously on the situation because we would not hesitate to take legal action against the mining company to enable such impunity to occur,” he affirmed.
