It was an inter-schools cultural affair as basic schools from the Anyinase Adjobue Circuit, comprising Akyem Anyinase, Akyem Adjobue, and Akyem Kyiremenken basic schools in Akyemansa District in the Eastern Region showcased various cultural performances to celebrate the Cultural Festival 2025 at Akyem Anyinase durbar grounds.
The festival, which was hosted by the Akyem Anyinase Basic School, was held under the theme “Culture, A Tool For Consolidating Ghana’s Democratic Gains.”
The event was a vibrant celebration of Ghanaian customs and traditions, aimed at showcasing the diverse cultures of Ghana and broadening students’ understanding of the country’s rich heritage.
The event was attended by chiefs, Ghana Education Service (GES) staff, alumni, Parents, and the general public.
The Purpose of the Festival
The cultural festival was designed to demonstrate the importance of cultural education in the school curriculum and also to teach the pupilsthe cultural traditions of all 16 regions of Ghana.
The event provided a platform for pupils to showcase their knowledge and skills in traditional Ghanaian crafts, music, dance, and cuisine.
The pupils‘ performances were impressive, with some making paper houses and cars, others creating traditional outfits by hand, still life drawing, construction & assemblage, and some cooking local dishes.
The pupils also performed traditional dances, Drum language, sight singing, drama, choral music, storytelling, poetry recitation, wearing traditional clothing, and showcasing their cultural heritage.
The one-day event was full of excitement and thrills as supporting pupils of the performing schools cheered their mates during the performances.
In an address, Mr. Emmanuel Darkwah, the School Improvement Support Officer (SISO), said culture is not only restricted to homes and communities but could be found in some subjects studied at school.
He explained that education teaches pupils not just theory but also customs, which are essential to identity and heritage. He noted that some subjects taught students customs and traditions, and that when studied, could help in the moral upbringing of pupils.
According to him, by incorporating cultural education into the curriculum it can help pupils develop a deeper understanding and appreciation of their cultural roots, and prepare them to become active participants in preserving and promoting the cultural heritage.
Encouragement
Mr. Theophilus Aboagye, the District Cultural Coordinator and Deputy Education Director, encouraged parents to support their children in school-related practical activities.
He asserts that parents ought to actively support their children’s involvement in cultural events since it fosters their creativity and sense of cultural identity.
He said that, by doing this, parents may prepare their children to contribute significantly to our cultural legacy and help them grow a better sense of self and community.
In order to guarantee that children obtain the greatest education possible, he exhorts parents to interact with teachers, attend school functions, and offer feedback.
Economic Benefits of the Festival
Nana Owusu Akyenteng III, the chief of Akyem Adjobue, said that the celebration was necessary because students are increasingly distancing themselves from Ghana’s rich cultural heritage.
He said that such an event will help the pupils appreciate the country’s rich culture and reduce their inclination to adopt foreign cultures from Europe and America.
Nana Owusu Akyenteng III believes that the Anyinase Adjobue Circuit Cultural Festival is a significant step towards instilling cultural appreciation and pride in the younger generation, ensuring that Ghana’s rich traditions are not lost to globalization.
He also noted that the cultural festival would have a positive impact on the local economy.
According to him, the festival brings people together, providing opportunities for drivers, traders, and other service providers to benefit from the event.
The chief also expressed his gratitude to the schools and the education authorities for organizing the festival.
Feedback From Trainers
One of the trainers at Anyinase R/C JHS, John Gafa, was impressed by the students’ performance.
“The students applied about 99% of what they were taught, showcasing their creativity and talent,” he said.
The trainers were delighted to see the students’ enthusiasm and passion for Ghanaian culture.
