A/R: Armed robbers engage police in gun battle; 2 dead, 24 phones, cash retrieved At Santasi.

Two (2) suspected armed robbers have been killed in a shootout with the Ashanti Regional Police Patrol Team at Santasi a suburb of Kumasi in the Ashanti Region, MyNewsGh.com has confirmed

According to the Ashanti Regional Police Command, four (4) suspected armed robbers embarked on a robbery expedition at Santasi Kajasi, Oteng-Nkwanta and its environs and succeeded in robbing occupants of about five (5) houses of their monies, mobile phones, laptops and other personal belongings

The Ashanti Regional Police Public Relations Officer (PRO) ASP Godwin Ahiayo addressing the media in Kumasi, said the suspected robbers opened fire on the police patrol team dispatched to the scene after receiving distress calls from the victims.

According to ASP Godwin Ahiayo, the Police Patrol Team also returned fire which leading to the death of two (2) suspected armed robbers.

“The other two (2) suspected armed robbers sustained gun shots wounds but managed to escape. We retrieved two weapons; one foreign pistol loaded with 3 live ammunition, 1 revolver with 3 spent ammunition, 2 big back packs containing 3 laptops, 24 assorted mobile phones, 2 machetes and GHS3,580”.

The bodies of the deceased persons have been deposited at the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital awaiting for identification and autopsy.

Meanwhile the police are searching for the 2 suspected armed robbers who managed to escape after sustaining gun shots wounds.
