Ibrahim Salifu’s first-half strike ensured that reigning champions Hearts of Oak advanced to the next stage of the MTN FA Cup on Wednesday.
Salifu scored in the 22nd minute as Hearts of Oak beat Accra Lions 1-0 in Dansoman to reach the round of 32 of the competition.
The midfielder got on the end of Isaac Mensah’s beautiful through pass and beat the goalkeeper to give Hearts the lead, and it turned out to be the winner.
Lions played well in the second half, but luck eluded them. Substitute Daniel Awuni hit the post as Hearts goalie Richmond Ayi made some key saves.
Few minutes to full time, Lions had a penalty appeal waved away by referee Charles Bulu. They claimed the ball hit the hand of Hearts defender Caleb Amankwah in the penalty area, but Bulu wasn’t convinced.
This is the second time Hearts have defeated Lions in just three days. The Phobians won 2-0 when they met in the Ghana Premier League last Sunday.
