Parliament will soon make a determination on whether the embattled Member of Parliament for Assin North Constituency, James Gyakye Quayson, should continue holding himself out as such.
During proceedings on Thursday, the First Deputy Speaker, Joseph Osei-Owusu, while presiding, ruled that the leadership of the House will meet on the vexed issue and make a determination on it in the coming days.
This comes after the Kwadaso Member of parliament, Kingsley Nyarko, requested the House to decide the fate of the MP who was present in the chamber during proceedings.
According to him, the ruling of the High Court bars the Assin North MP from holding himself out as such.
His call generated heated debate amongst the two sides of the aisle with the Minority MPs insisting that Mr. Quayson will be recognised as MP until the full determination of his appeal currently pending before the high court.
His statement was concurred by Member of parliament for Abuakwa South Constituency, Samuel Atta Akyea who opined that since the pronouncement has been affirmed by two High Courts, he [James Gyakye Quayson] is disqualified from participating in parliamentary proceedings.
But the Minority contended that they will not tolerate such unorthodox moves to reduce their numbers.
