2020 Polls : President Akufo-Addo Declares December 7th  (Elections Day) As Public Holiday.

President Akufo-Addo has declared Monday 7th December, 2020 which is the elections day as a holiday according to a statement Myghanamedia.com  has sighted.

 

 

“This is to facilitate the conduct of the election in the context of the COVID-19 pandemic, help ensure strict observance of COVID-19 safety protocols on election day, and enable registered voters exercise their franchise in safety and and with minimal inconvenience”, portion of the statement read.

 

This is decision was taken following submission of a proposal to the president by the Chairperson of the Electoral Commission, Mrs. Jean Mensa.

The EC in a statement explained that its proposal sought to “give registered voters the opportunity to devote the day to exercise their civic right and responsibility to vote during the upcoming Presidential and Parliamentary Elections.”

The election management body also revealed that “there was also a consensus by the political parties and the Commission that registered voters should be encouraged to cast their ballots early on election day.”
